Anxiety assessments and interventions
Anxiety seems to be quite common in children of all ages. Dr Davies recognises the impact that this can have on day-to-day life for the child and also the rippling effect on family functioning. A detailed assessment is offered with the aim of getting a better understanding of the anxiety and to look at ways of moving forward. Working closely with the parent/carer is an important part of this work in order to get a fuller understanding of the issues.
School anxiety appears to be a common difficulty, especially since the Covid pandemic, Dr Davies offers assessment and intervention looking specifically at the factors relating to school anxiety. Anxiety and panic attacks can be especially common in adolescents, particularly in relation to attending school or social gatherings. Dr Davies can also offer to liaise with schools in order to provide support, if required.
Understanding and managing challenging behaviours
Prior to any intervention, a thorough assessment will be completed in order to obtain a clearer understanding of the behaviour, and in order that a tailored intervention plan that can be put in place. Dr Davies is trained in delivering evidence-based interventions to help understand, manage and reduce behavioural outbursts, and also promote early social-communication development.
The psychological approaches drawn from include – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and ACT-based interventions.
